Practical Magic
I was talking to a friend the other night about Magic and what it actually means to me in my life as an intuitive. We were talking about the image that magic and the word Witch has nowadays.
I was saying that I despair of the so-called ‘Witch Shops’ that sell the aesthetic of witchcraft as if it was something that you can purchase. I see everyday sites on Instagram with women dressed in cloaks and horns, skipping around at Glastonbury Well saying that in order to be in the club you have to have a piece of this. I do understand that this is aspirational as sure as those ladies who buy a Jo Malone candle in order to feel as if they have a piece of the jet set lifestyle.
Let's get real ladies and gents, the real witches never thought of themselves as witches which is really just a disparaging name for a wise woman or one who knows a thing or two about natural magic and healing. For thousands of years there have been healers, people who used the tools that surrounded them every day to heal and connect with their higher wisdom.
Plants, flowers, and herbs have been used to ease pain both mental and physical for centuries before science took over and manufactured on a large scale components of these things and then resold them to our doctors as Medicines that we cannot live without.
In covid we saw the folly in having to rely on those medicines as suddenly they were not widely available. I for one would never want that dependency.
There have been many books on natural remedies and apothecaries. The one thing that we must cultivate though is our ability to energetically decipher what our body needs. This is a process that should be taught and developed, we seem to want to divest this power though to those in white coats that have studied medicine in the modern sense.
I believe that we all can develop the gift of self-healing. I believe that with time, patience, and confidence we can all develop the wisdom to know what our bodies and minds need for peace and health.
Bending will as is so often shown under the heading of spells is an interesting thing to me? Why do we want to bend will in the first place? Free will is our birthright? If we want something to happen then shouldn’t we just focus on a good outcome? Not focus on the problem but the solution. If you think buying a coloured candle will help that , I think you might have been misled. After all, any candle lit with the intention of focusing our mind IS a magic candle.
Cord cutting meditations will help you to focus on ridding yourself of unwanted attentions. Again Intention is everything in true magic. The magic is not in the equipment you furnish yourself with but the intention of what you are trying to achieve.
There are many women and men walking the earth at the moment who speak aloud their intentions. Who in fact ask for what they need out loud to the universe . They set their intentions; Light a candle for protection from the dark just like they used to do back in the dark ages.
They are not buying into the magical accoutrements that are advertised in these ‘witch shops ‘but are actually using their own free will in order to change their situation.
I have been taught to look out for signs in nature that will lead me to solutions. I have been self-taught mostly by listening to my inner voice. The more I self-reflect the more I trust myself. Why should I trust someone else’s learned knowledge over my own ? If that makes me a wise woman then I will gladly take that description of me. My aesthetics may not reflect the media’s idea of a ‘Witch’. But I am a healer, I am an intuitive, I am powerful and free. No wonder we were persecuted by the establishment. We are dangerous because we need no one but ourselves to thrive.
Practical magic is.
Listening to our inner voice.
Knowing when we are in need of rest or relaxation.
Knowing when to walk away when we are being drained or used up.
Questioning untruths told to us with much to gain.
Taking charge of our lives and taking responsibility for what we create.
Cultivating the knowledge to make our own healing medicines.
If you look around you in the supermarket at that person in their sweatshirt and jeans, you are probably looking at a true wise woman. You don’t need a cloak, horns or a certificate from a coven to belong. There is power in being a lone practitioner.
